Kenny Tan and Johnson Lee from Pelagic Anglers, our representatives in Singapore, have just completed a solid week of popping and jigging with Shorefire. This was the first trip to the island for the duo and might we say, they had a ball.
Strong winds for the entire week meant that the better jigging grounds were virtually inaccessable. This did not stop the boys from fishing hard and Johnson in particular worked his magic as they jigged up many species including dogtooth, GT's, black trevally, red bass, bluefin trevally, amberjack and wahoo. Several fish were lost due to cut or worn assist cords. A change to a chain of swivels and split rings was helpful and is highly recommended.
While Johnson showed the way jigging, it was Kenny who excelled with the longer rods. An extraordinary number of large GT's were raised and constantly swiped and missed the big chugging poppers. It was Kenny's astute use of stickbaits which accounted for the majority of the bigger GT's that were boated. At the end of the week the lads were not ready to leave and are already planning their "revenge" trip. You can contact Kenny at pelagic_anglers@yahoo.com.sg.
