The 2009 season finaly got underway in June. With the water temperature being very warm at the start of the month, it meant lots of rain and even a late low pressure system generating unwanted swell.
Generally the fishing was good, with wahoo being plentiful, yellowfin tuna not numerous but of good size and even a marlin or two on the surface. Wee Liam from Kuala Lumpur jigged light jigs on PE4 line for success on smaller fish and also scored the best GTs for the month on Cubera 125 poppers. Overall though the GTs proved the hardest species to find. Luckily you can always cast for tuna on C.I., with Khoo from Singapore boating some serious yellowfin on Patriot Design lures. Masterd Bomb 135 and 155 poppers and Patrol 285 stickbaits proving to be the standouts.
With the rain finally easing and the water temperature dropping as the month draws to a close, all the signs are promising for the months ahead.
